When I needed a “Friend”, were you there? 10 November 2007

Iwas very malnourished and nearly died. But after quite a stay in the Hospital, I am ready for anything!Running a hospital in a rural area of Africa is not going to be the kind of operation where you can say at the end of a day “well that it for today – all jobs done”.  But when you have people in Britain working hard to give you at least some of the things you need, it helps get some of the human need met.  And that is what “The Friends of Kisiizi Hospital” do.  They supply a steady stream of prayer, funds though special schemes, periodic shipping containers full of essential supplies, and expertise.

We have met the “The Friends of Kisiizi Hospital” at their annual conference in Reading last month and have been in touch with them over matters just recently.  The people involved have virtually all been to Kisiizi, either as volunteers, visitors, or mission partners.  And having been moved by God by the work there, wish to support it by prayer, giving and time, while in the comfort of living in UK.

We have worked in UMN in Nepal, a much bigger operation, and also doing exciting work that is a witness to the love of God.  I’m surprised that all the ex-UMN people did not set up something like this for UMN.  This crew (“The Friends of Kisiizi Hospital”) are good.  Energetic, inventive.  And we have to say, welcoming.  They were encouraging to us when CMS mentioned Kisiizi to us and we thought “Eh?  Where?”

I wonder whether these energetic “The Friends of Kisiizi Hospital” wallahs don’t get a little into the hair of the Hospital management?  Nevertheless, the schemes like “Sponsor A Nurse”, or funding for the Rehabilitation programme, or the containers full of second hand medical equipment, or the visiting expert channelled Kisiizi’s way are appreciated.  Have a look at the Friends site http://www.i-spillman.freeserve.co.uk/KISIIZI.htm and the associated Sponsor an Orphan http://www.kisiiziorphans.org.uk/.

Kisiizi Management

Anyone reading this an ex-UMNer?  Get something going.  UMN-Nepal and the hospitals there deserve similar support.

Next week – we are going to the Mid-Africa Regional Conference.  We will keep you posted.
