Finance Office.  One of the staff said that was a pity because they made the office look nice and now it looked bare. When we went to Kabale Bill looked for some suitable posters. After finding mainly Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United posters, and one of Barak Obama.  But getting a football poster would virtually be sectarian, and we are not Americans so he got nothing on that occasion.

When Bill said this to his staff, they said “Get the Obama poster!”  “Why?  We are Ugandans, not Americans.” “Ah, but he is the first African President.”  There was a general discussion and it was clear that they felt a real pride that the son of an East African was now the most powerful single person on Earth.  This pride has been reported elsewhere.  But it struck us fresh – how the sense of historic humiliation that Africans have felt, was now being lifted very visibly.
