Spirituality Here
In UK, “Spirituality” has become acceptable in a way that “church” and “Christianity” have ceased to be so. In Uganda, no such discinction can be made. But within all
the religious words and behaviour, what do we find here? It is an issue worth considering regularly as it can be used to reflect on our own understanding of God’s purposes for us. So – we have created this page and others attached, to pass on to others what we think is going on. What do we think about the faith we find here? An example to Christians in UK? There are people here who are good examples, and others are not – just as in UK. The way Christianity is done here very often provokes:
- the “fat cats” flashing-the-cash in church, but
- the praises from those on their sick beds
- the glib phrases and cliches, but
- the sincere and cheery hymn singing and drumming in worship.
While many traditionalists embraced Christianity when it came, some looked to darkers aspects of their traditions. So a page on what might be called witchcraft has been added.
Christianity is less than a 100 years old here. But a superficial skin it isn’t. It is deeply embedded into the warp and weft of the Ugandan mind.
We are adding more material from time to time on attached pages.
