Duh, no thanks.  Well that was my response back in 2007 when I (Bill) was asked during the initial CMS health screening.  After all – my personal lifestyle and also my medical history suggested no exposure.  And that was that.  Until I got to Uganda.  There, 5.4% of adults live with HIV, lower than many other places in (more…)

This is a summary of what’s going on at Kisiizi Hospital and allied enterprises in to June 2007.  The Medical Superintendent, Dr Tonny Tumwesigye, writes twice a year a twice a year update on Kisiizi Hospital, and this posting is base on it.

The range of activities is enormous.  Old Kisiizi hands – if you read this and feel something has been missed out, apologies.  If readers want the whole report, go to the Kisiizi website and download it for yourself.

A large new medical ward and theatre was opened not that long ago and already is full.  But perhaps there’ll be less maternity overflow into the Chapel!  Following three months of rains, once that subsides, there is an influx of malaria.  Tuberculosis continues to be a major challenge and the number of patients continues to escalate.  TB used to be a scourge in UK too, my grandmother died of it in 1949 and my father was in hospital with it at the very same time Bill was born (1953), but cured by use of the earliest medical treatment.    It needs to be eradicated from Uganda too.
