What kind of connection with Africa is needed? This is what we took away from the Mid Africa Conference 2010 in Swanwick Derbyshire. The depth. The breadth. The frequency.
Roger Bowen gave us some startling quotes as he led us to reflect on “Mission and Worship”. “Without worship – you shrink. It is as brutal as that” from Peter Shaeffer’s Equus. Or try Ralph Waldo Emerson “What we are worshipping, we are becoming”. (Goodness, imagine a BMW or iPad with arms and legs walking down the street.) But more on this on another occasion. Back to connections.

At the end of the Jubilee
Prayer is a puzzling thing. Of course we pray. We are Christians aren’t we? But what kind of things do we actually expect? Wanda’s sudden departure from Uganda because of her ear condition was distressing because we did not know the outcome and we feared the worst. That she’d not come back. That Bill would have to return to UK soon, and all this work in Uganda would come to a sudden end.

Running a hospital in a rural area of Africa is not going to be the kind of operation where you can say at the end of a day “well that it for today – all jobs done”. But when you have people in Britain working hard to give you at least some of the things you need, it helps get some of the human need met. And that is what “The Friends of Kisiizi Hospital” do.
